Tips for Submitting Your Artwork to PHOENIX

  1. Good lighting is essential. Natural lighting is typically far brighter and more flattering than artificial lighting. Indirect, diffused lighting can help you avoid glares. Try setting up your shot in open shade like under the eaves, in your garage with the door open, next to a large window, next to a large white wall, like the side of a building, or just under overcast skies.

  2. Keep your camera perpendicular to your canvas. Holding your camera at an angle will distort your image and is also more susceptible to glare.

  3. Avoid using a wide angle lens which may also distort your image. Stepping further back and using a very small amount of zoom to fill the frame is a better strategy (as long as you don’t zoom in so much that it uses digital zoom and introduces digital noise.)

  4. Make sure you have a neutral, uncluttered background. The focus should be on your artwork, not the background. If your phone has a portrait setting, give it a try. It may blur your background enough to allow the focus to remain on your art.

  5. Experiment with different angles and set-ups and see how you get the best results.
