PROSE & POETRY
The 2019 Phoenix will is open for literary submissions till December 14, 2018. Submissions are accepted through Submittable, an online submission system. Click the button on the top of this page for the link to Submittable.
We are searching for thought-provoking poems, works of fiction, and works of creative nonfiction by Clark students, staff, and alumni that resonate with us as readers and as writers. Introduce us to characters that delight or terrify us. Stray from clichés and stereotypical imagery. Capture what is real, both emotionally and physically.
Fan fiction, erotica, and plays will not be accepted. Excerpts or chapters from novels will be considered, but must be able to function as standalone stories. Works that deal with mature and complex issues or themes are welcomed, but works that address these inappropriately will be declined. Please do not resubmit works that have been previously considered for Phoenix.
Create an account with Submittable. It's easy! All you need is an email address. From there, you'll want to carefully follow the submission guidelines for each category. Handwritten or hard copies of submissions will not be accepted
Basic Guidelines for Manuscripts:
No name should be included anywhere on your work (submissions are selected anonymously)
Literary works must be Times New Roman, 12 point font, and double-spaced
Include a word count on the first page
Include a brief writer's statement on Submittable that says something substantial about the work
Attach submission as .doc or .docx files

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact Phoenix staff at Phoenix@clark.edu. You can also email Elizabeth Donley, the Phoenix Literary Adviser, at email@example.com.
Keep in mind that we are on break over the summer, so response times may be slow, but by Fall Quarter, we'll be checking email regularly.
VISUAL ART, VIDEO & MUSIC
Visual art submissions will be accepted through January 18, 2019 for the 2019 edition. Video, music, animation and performance submissions will be accepted through March 21, 2019. Why wait until the last minute? Send your great work in now!
All visual art must be submitted online. Be sure to follow our submission guidelines below to ensure there are no problems with your entry. For art submissions, please limit submissions to four total, with a maximum of two pieces per medium
We ask that submissions are recent, original work that have not been previously submitted to Phoenix or appeared in another publication. Artwork submissions should not be fan art or a reproduction of another artist's work. Any form of appropriated work must be noted in the title or statement. Each submission is required to have a thoughtful artist statement and title. “Untitled” will not be accepted as title for submissions.
